Algiers, Algeria – A Russian naval detachment arrived at the port of Algiers on Thursday, December 18, 2025, as part of the ongoing Algerian-Russian military cooperation program for the year. The detachment includes the Krasnodar submarine and the Altay naval rescue tug.
The four-day technical and operational stopover underscores the deepening strategic partnership between Algeria and Russia, reflecting the robust military ties between the two nations. This visit highlights their commitment to bolstering maritime coordination and exchanging expertise in a region marked by increasing security challenges.
This collaboration aims to enhance stability in the Mediterranean region and strengthen deterrence and balance. During the visit, the Russian mission commander and his delegation paid a courtesy call to the commander of the Central Maritime Front at the naval base in Algiers, within the First Military Region.
The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss prospects for enhancing operational cooperation, developing joint work mechanisms, and promoting the exchange of technical and field expertise between the Algerian and Russian navies. The visit concluded with an exchange of symbolic gifts between the two sides.
The program includes reciprocal visits between officers from the Algerian naval forces and the Russian detachment’s crew, facilitating the sharing of practical knowledge and experiences gained in various areas of maritime work.
