Massive Drug Haul: Authorities Seize 250kg of Cannabis

Algiers, December 20, 2025 – Algerian security forces have successfully intercepted two major shipments of processed cannabis, totaling 250 kilograms, originating from Morocco. The operations, conducted in Tlemcen and Naama, resulted in the arrest of ten individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking and the recovery of 790 million centimes (approximately $55,000 USD) believed to be proceeds from illegal activities.

According to a statement released by the national security directorate, the seizures were carried out last week in two separate operations. The Regional Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking in Tlemcen seized 170 kilograms of processed cannabis, while the Research and Intervention Brigade in Naama apprehended 76 kilograms.

In addition to the drugs and cash, authorities also confiscated ten vehicles reportedly used for transporting and distributing the narcotics. This highlights the scale and sophistication of the trafficking network being targeted.

The arrested suspects have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Specialized Penal Pole in Oran and the Public Prosecutor at the Naama Court. They face serious charges related to drug trafficking, money laundering, and association with criminal enterprises.

These successful operations underscore the ongoing efforts of Algerian law enforcement to combat drug trafficking across its borders and dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade. The proximity to Morocco, a known source of cannabis, presents a constant challenge for Algerian security agencies.

The National Security Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining vigilance and intensifying efforts to protect Algerian citizens from the dangers of drug trafficking and related crimes.
