Radios Winter Foot Tournament Kicks Off with Star-Studded Event

The 15th edition of the ‘Radios Winter Foot’ tournament commenced Friday evening, drawing prominent sporting figures including Lakhdar Belloumi, Kouici, Magharia, and international referee Hansal. The event, also attended by the president of the Radios Association, Kadda Chafi, and other sports personalities, unfolded in a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere.

This year’s tournament boasts the participation of 50 teams from various regions across Algeria, including Relizane, Oran, Mostaganem, Naama, El Bayadh, Tiaret, Chlef, and Tlemcen. Competitions are being held in the youth categories of under 9, 11, and 13 years, as well as a senior category. The total number of participants, encompassing players and technical staff, reaches approximately 650 individuals. A dedicated fan base, familiar with Radios’ community-based tournaments, further energized the matches with their enthusiastic support.

Organizers have ensured optimal logistical and organizational conditions to facilitate a successful sporting event. Their aim is to create an enjoyable football spectacle coinciding with the winter school holidays, a tradition the association has upheld since its inception in 1997. Previous editions have seen the presence of sporting luminaries such as Riyad Mahrez, Ghoulam, Slimani, Belaili, Bounedjah, Ziani, Bougherra, and Antar Yahia. Furthermore, the tournament has previously honored deceased sports figures, including coaches Khalef Mohieddine and Rachid Mekhloufi, professional player Mahfoud Kerbadj, and boxer Mustapha Moussa.

The current edition also includes recognition for students achieving top academic grades. Eight matches are scheduled daily at the Abdelkader Marafal stadium in Oran, with the overarching goal of encouraging youth participation in sports, mitigating social risks, and discovering football talents to bolster Algerian football. The tournament aims to foster a positive environment for young athletes and contribute to the overall development of football in the region.
