Batna, Algeria – December 21, 2025 – A joint operation between the Batna Wilaya Judicial Police and units of the People’s National Army has resulted in the seizure of over 56,000 psychotropic capsules and the arrest of a major drug trafficker.
According to a statement released by the Wilaya Security services, the operation was launched following intelligence received by the police regarding the storage of a large quantity of psychotropic substances at the residence of a known drug dealer. A coordinated plan was then executed with the assistance of the People’s National Army, leading to the identification of the suspect and their location.
After obtaining a warrant from the relevant prosecutor’s office, authorities searched the suspect’s home. During the search, officers discovered 56,550 psychotropic capsules hidden within the premises. The suspect was allegedly using the residence, located in the city of Batna, as a storage facility for distributing the drugs among young people, according to the statement.
In addition to the capsules, authorities also seized a quantity of cocaine and ammunition of the fifth category without legal justification.
The suspect has been presented before the local prosecutor’s office after the completion of all legal procedures. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the network associated with the drug dealer.
