Clashes Erupt Between Syrian Army and SDF in Aleppo

Aleppo, Syria – Intense clashes erupted in Aleppo on Monday between the Syrian Arab Army and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), leading to the closure of the vital Gaziantep road and displacement of numerous families. The fighting is concentrated in the Shihan and Lairamoun roundabouts, which border the SDF-controlled Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsood neighborhoods.

The city of Aleppo is largely under government control, with the exception of these two aforementioned districts. Both sides have accused each other of initiating the hostilities. Government sources allege that SDF snipers targeted areas surrounding the Shihan and Lairamoun roundabouts north of Aleppo. Conversely, the SDF accuses what it describes as “Damascus government factions” of launching an attack on the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, holding the government responsible for the escalation.

Reports indicate that the affected areas lie within the range of small arms fire, prompting some residents to flee their homes. The Gaziantep road, a crucial artery connecting to the international highway, has been closed as a result of the fighting. Many factories in the industrial area near the clashes have also suspended operations due to the intensity of the gunfire.

The SDF denies initiating any attacks, stating that its fighters are only equipped with small arms. However, sources on the ground confirm that the areas experiencing displacement are within the range of these weapons. The Ashrafiyeh neighborhood is located approximately 200 meters from the sites of the clashes, while the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood is about 1000 meters away. Both are under SDF control.

Both sides have reported casualties as a result of the fighting. The situation remains tense, with continued accusations and counter-accusations fueling uncertainty for the civilian population. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
