Ooredoo Algeria Addresses Concerns Over Rapid Data Depletion

Algiers – Ooredoo Algeria’s CEO, Roni Tohme, has responded to widespread concerns circulating on social media regarding the seemingly rapid depletion of mobile internet data allowances. Tohme firmly refuted claims of any manipulation or unwarranted deductions from customer balances.

In an interview with a national television channel, Tohme explained that the primary reason for the perceived rapid data consumption is directly linked to the superior speed and quality of Ooredoo’s internet network compared to other operators in the Algerian market. He emphasized that the network’s enhanced capabilities allow users to consume more content, and content of higher quality, within the same data allowance.

“We frequently encounter accusations that ‘Ooredoo is stealing from us,'” Tohme stated, “However, technical analysis consistently reveals that the data consumed is actually being used to download and view more content, and at a higher resolution, due to the high speeds our network provides.” He specifically cited video streaming, live broadcasts, and modern data-intensive applications as examples where the network’s speed significantly impacts data usage.

Tohme clarified that comparing the consumption of 1GB on Ooredoo’s network versus another provider is not technically accurate. He explained that faster connection speeds automatically trigger higher video quality settings, resulting in faster and more consistent loading, consequently consuming data more quickly. This, he stressed, does not indicate any billing errors or miscalculation of data usage.

The CEO referenced independent rankings from Ookla, a global leader in internet performance testing, which consistently ranks Ooredoo as the fastest mobile network in Algeria. He asserted that these rankings are based on user-initiated speed tests and quality of experience assessments conducted through the Speedtest platform. These assessments consistently demonstrate Ooredoo’s leading position in the Algerian market in terms of download speeds, upload speeds, and overall video and gaming experience.

Despite these achievements, Tohme emphasized that Ooredoo remains committed to continuous improvement. He affirmed the company’s dedication to ongoing investment in network upgrades, expanded coverage, and enhanced service quality. He also highlighted the importance of proactive communication with customers to clearly explain data usage patterns and network capabilities. Ooredoo aims to provide a transparent and reliable service to all its subscribers.
