Sonelgaz Suspends Utility Cutoffs During AFCON

Algiers – State-owned energy company Sonelgaz has announced the suspension of electricity and gas service disconnections for customers with outstanding bills during the Algerian national football team’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision aims to ensure that citizens can comfortably follow the prestigious continental tournament and support the national team, known as “Les Verts” or “The Greens,” without interruption.

In an official statement released earlier today, Sonelgaz emphasized that this measure reflects its commitment to social responsibility and public service. The company recognizes the widespread national interest in the AFCON and seeks to foster a supportive environment for fans across the country.

“We understand the importance of this tournament to the Algerian people, and we want to ensure that everyone can enjoy watching our national team compete without worrying about potential service disruptions,” a Sonelgaz spokesperson stated.

The suspension of disconnections will be in effect for the duration of Algeria’s participation in the AFCON. Sonelgaz clarified that normal billing and collection procedures will resume immediately following the conclusion of the tournament. Customers are still encouraged to settle any outstanding debts as soon as possible to avoid future disruptions.

This move by Sonelgaz is expected to be welcomed by Algerian football fans nationwide, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the excitement of the AFCON and rally behind their team as they compete for continental glory.
