Kyiv Under Attack: Early Tuesday morning, Kyiv experienced a renewed aerial assault, resulting in power outages across the city. Ukrainian officials confirmed the attack, stating that air defense systems were actively engaged in neutralizing threats over the capital.
The Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported a widespread Russian offensive targeting the country’s energy infrastructure. This resulted in electricity disruptions in several regions, including Kyiv and its surrounding areas. Kyiv’s mayor indicated that at least two people were injured during the assault. Residents were urged to remain in shelters until further notice.
Russian Claims: Simultaneously, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced the interception and destruction of 29 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory. The ministry specified that air defenses had downed 14 drones over the Rostov region, seven over the Stavropol region, and three over the Belgorod region and the Republic of Kalmykia. Single drones were reportedly destroyed over the Kursk region and the Crimean Peninsula.
Escalating Tensions: These events follow closely after a round of US-led peace talks held in Miami this past Sunday. The recent escalation raises concerns about the fragility of ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
