Children Learn Safe Pet Interaction in National Awareness Day

Algiers, December 23, 2025 – A national awareness day focused on children’s safe interaction with pets was inaugurated today, under the banner of “Awareness, Prevention, and Treatment.” The event saw the joint participation of the Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kouthar Krikou, and the Minister of Health, Mohamed Sidik Aït Mesoudane.

The initiative is part of the national policy aimed at strengthening health prevention, protecting the environment, and establishing sound health practices among children when interacting with animals, particularly pets. The program seeks to educate children on responsible pet ownership and safe interaction techniques.

The awareness day featured interactive workshops designed to educate children on how to interact safely and appropriately with pets. These workshops highlighted the importance of vaccination and regular health monitoring for pets. Experts demonstrated practical techniques for approaching and handling animals, emphasizing the importance of recognizing animal behavior and respecting their boundaries.

“It is crucial to instill in our children a sense of responsibility and awareness when it comes to interacting with animals,” stated Minister Krikou during the opening ceremony. “This initiative aims to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure their safety and the well-being of the animals they encounter.”

Minister Aït Mesoudane added, “Public health is paramount. By educating children on proper hygiene and preventative measures, we can minimize the risk of zoonotic diseases and promote a healthier environment for all.”

The event concluded with the launch of a joint awareness campaign targeting both children and their parents. This campaign will focus on promoting responsible pet ownership and providing guidance on safe and responsible interactions with pets. The campaign aims to safeguard public health and preserve the environment through education and awareness.

The nationwide campaign will include distribution of informative materials, workshops in schools, and community outreach programs. Organizers hope to foster a culture of respect and understanding between children and animals, leading to safer and more harmonious co-existence.
