Algerian Army Nets Significant Gains in Anti-Crime Operations

Algiers – The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) achieved notable success in its ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and illegal activities during the period of December 17th to 23rd, 2025, according to a statement released by the Ministry of National Defense.

The week-long operations resulted in the apprehension of 55 drug traffickers and the thwarting of attempts to smuggle 4.58 quintals of treated cannabis across the border with Morocco. Authorities also seized 1,293,818 psychotropic pills.

In separate operations conducted in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet, a total of 427 individuals were arrested. Security forces confiscated 23 vehicles, 257 generators, and 136 jackhammers, along with quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.

Furthermore, 13 individuals were apprehended, and a Kalashnikov submachine gun, two automatic pistols, eight hunting rifles, and 38,370 liters of fuel were seized. Authorities also confiscated two quintals of tobacco and 34 tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard successfully intercepted illegal immigration attempts along Algeria’s national coastline, rescuing 124 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Across the country, 493 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended.

These operations underscore the ANP’s commitment to maintaining security and combating various forms of cross-border crime throughout the country.
