National Production Offers Real Opportunities Across Sectors

Algiers, December 24, 2025 – Algeria possesses significant opportunities to bolster its reliance on national production across various key sectors, according to Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency. Speaking at a conference held at the Palais des Expositions, Rekkache emphasized that import substitution is not a temporary fix, but a strategic imperative integral to the nation’s economic and industrial development priorities.

Rekkache stressed that a cohesive approach, harmonizing investment and trade policies, is essential for success. He highlighted several sectors where domestic production could realistically replace imports. These include the food processing industry, manufacturing, and essential industrial inputs and materials.

Specifically, Rekkache pointed to basic chemicals, semi-finished plastics, packaging materials, spare parts, and industrial components related to industrial, agricultural equipment, and transportation as areas ripe for import substitution. Construction materials and related products, which significantly impact the import bill, also present considerable opportunities.

The Director General affirmed the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency’s commitment to acting as a crucial link between the state’s strategic direction and businesses. This involves guiding investment towards priority sectors, supporting projects with substantial economic impact, and incentivizing investments that enhance integration rates and generate added value. The agency aims to foster a robust and diversified national production base, reducing reliance on foreign imports and strengthening Algeria’s economic resilience. This initiative is expected to significantly boost the Algerian economy in the coming years.
