Algiers, December 24, 2025 – Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Razzik, today strongly defended the strategy of prioritizing locally produced goods and commodities as a viable alternative to imports. Speaking at a workshop dedicated to import substitution, Minister Razzik emphasized Algeria’s significant potential to replace numerous imported products with domestically manufactured alternatives.
Razzik highlighted that this economic approach aims to enhance local production capabilities and stimulate productive investment within the country. He noted the substantial progress made by the national production sector since 2020. Algeria has successfully transitioned into a producer of various goods previously reliant on imports. Furthermore, some of these products have achieved a level of competitiveness enabling them to penetrate international markets.
“We possess considerable resources that allow us to substitute many imported goods with national products,” stated Minister Razzik during his address.
The Minister underscored the importance of the workshop’s outcomes, expressing his hope that the resulting recommendations and findings would translate into practical measures and on-the-ground projects. These initiatives, he said, should further support the import substitution process and bolster national production, ultimately contributing to the country’s sustainable economic development.
The workshop served as a platform for experts and stakeholders to discuss strategies and identify opportunities for further strengthening local industries and reducing reliance on foreign imports. The focus remains on creating a robust and self-sufficient Algerian economy.
