Algeria and Tunisia Strengthen Military Cooperation

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria and Tunisia have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering military cooperation and confronting shared security threats, according to an official statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Defence. The announcement follows a high-level meeting held in Algiers on Wednesday.

The Secretary-General of the Algerian Ministry of Defence, Mohamed Salah Benbicha, received the Chief of Staff of the Tunisian Land Army, First Lieutenant General Mohamed El Ghoul, along with a high-ranking military delegation. The meeting took place as Algeria hosts the 19th session of the Joint Algerian-Tunisian Committee, responsible for monitoring and overseeing the implementation of military cooperation between the two nations, from December 21st to 25th, 2025.

During the bilateral discussions, attended by the Chief of Staff of the Algerian Land Forces, the Director of External Relations and Cooperation at the Algerian Ministry of Defence, and members of the Tunisian delegation, both sides focused on areas of mutual interest. They lauded the “distinguished and qualitative level” achieved in the cooperative relationship between their respective armed forces.

The Secretary-General of the Algerian Ministry of Defence highlighted the “positive results” achieved in military cooperation, emphasizing the importance of “continuous and intensified coordination between the two countries to confront various security threats.” He further stated that this collaboration includes securing the shared border to mitigate the risks of terrorism, transnational organized crime, illegal immigration, smuggling, and drug trafficking.

This strengthened partnership underscores the commitment of Algeria and Tunisia to regional stability and security in the face of evolving challenges.
