Algiers – Significant snowfall is anticipated to blanket several central and eastern Algerian provinces starting this Thursday evening, according to the National Meteorology Office. A special weather alert has been issued, placing the affected regions under an orange vigilance level.
The provinces expected to experience heavy snowfall include Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and M’Sila. The snow is predicted to begin around 9:00 PM on Thursday and continue until noon (12:00 PM) on Friday.
Accumulation levels are forecast to range between 10 and 15 centimeters in areas with altitudes exceeding 1200 meters. Motorists are advised to drive with caution on higher altitude roads.
The weather alert also extends to the provinces of Setif, Batna, and Khenchela. These regions are expected to witness snowfall starting at 3:00 AM on Friday, lasting until 3:00 PM the same day. Similar accumulation levels, potentially reaching up to 15 centimeters in elevated areas, are also predicted.
Citizens, particularly those using mountain roads, are urged to exercise caution and vigilance. The National Meteorology Office advises residents to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to mitigate any potential risks associated with the adverse winter weather conditions.
