Education Overhaul: New AI Focus, Baccalaureate Reforms Planned

The Ministry of National Education is embarking on a significant restructuring of secondary education, with a renewed focus on preparing students for the future. Minister Mohamed Sghir Saadaoui announced plans to enhance the quality of education in middle and high schools, exploring the introduction of new academic tracks, particularly in computer science and information technology. This initiative aims to equip students with the necessary skills for careers in emerging fields like artificial intelligence.

During a parliamentary session, Minister Saadaoui emphasized that middle school students currently study a broad range of subjects to ensure they are well-prepared to choose their desired specialization later on. He clarified that university acceptance rates are calculated based on both annual grades and official examination scores.

A key component of the restructuring involves a review of the curriculum. The ministry is considering exempting students from certain subjects where they have lower grades, while maintaining a strong emphasis on core subjects with higher grade performance. This approach is intended to foster healthy competition and ensure equal opportunities for all students, ultimately improving overall educational quality and aligning the learning process with individual student abilities and aspirations.

Baccalaureate Exam Preparations Underway

Minister Saadaoui also addressed the final preparations for the upcoming baccalaureate exams. He outlined the measures being implemented to establish examination centers and guarantee the integrity of the process. These measures are designed to safeguard the sanctity of the exam and its results nationwide.

The opening of examination centers is contingent upon the number of candidates and their places of residence. Centers will only be established in areas with between 400 and 600 candidates. The Minister stressed that regulations prohibit mixing independent candidates with enrolled students in the same center.

A series of measures have been adopted to prevent exam leaks, along with coordination with various sectors to address transportation and accommodation challenges for candidates. Nearby educational institutions, youth facilities, and mosques will be opened in areas where establishing an exam center is difficult. The Ministry is committed to ensuring a fair and secure examination environment for all students.
