Algeria and Japan Emphasize Increased Trade Relations

Algiers, December 25, 2025 – Algeria and Japan have reaffirmed the importance of boosting bilateral trade relations. The emphasis came during a meeting in Algiers between Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and Japanese Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yohei Oishi, who is currently on an official visit to Algeria.

According to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity to underscore the need to elevate economic cooperation between the two nations to match the already strong political ties. Both parties agreed that concrete measures should be implemented to significantly increase the volume of bilateral trade.

Minister Attaf highlighted Algeria’s commitment to creating a favorable investment climate and encouraged Japanese economic operators to expand their direct investments within Algeria. He emphasized the potential for growth across various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and technology.

Vice-Minister Oishi reiterated Japan’s interest in strengthening its economic partnership with Algeria and acknowledged the considerable opportunities available in the Algerian market. He expressed his country’s willingness to explore new avenues for collaboration and investment.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was also attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounès Magramane. The discussions are expected to pave the way for enhanced economic cooperation and increased trade between Algeria and Japan in the coming years.
