Sudan’s Deputy Leader Declares: ‘No Truce, No Negotiation’

Khartoum, Sudan – Malik Agar, Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, has asserted that there will be “no truce and no negotiation” with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Agar made the remarks today, emphasizing that a “just peace” will only be achieved through the vision of the Sudanese people and the government.

Speaking from the capital, Agar stated the ongoing conflict is fundamentally “a struggle over resources and a desire to alter the country’s demographics.” He offered no further details but his comments suggest a hardening of the government’s position in the face of persistent fighting.

The Deputy Chairman’s strong statement comes amidst ongoing efforts by regional and international actors to broker a ceasefire and facilitate dialogue between the warring parties. However, Agar’s pronouncements suggest that the Sovereign Council believes a negotiated settlement with the RSF is not currently viable.

The conflict in Sudan, which erupted earlier this year, has resulted in widespread displacement and a severe humanitarian crisis. The fighting has also exacerbated existing ethnic tensions and strained the country’s already fragile economy. The international community has repeatedly called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to civilian rule.
