Algeria, Japan Aim to Boost Bilateral Trade

Algiers – Algeria and Japan are exploring avenues to significantly increase bilateral trade, building upon the strong political ties between the two nations. The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting held today in Algiers between Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yohei Oishi, who is currently on an official visit to Algeria.

The meeting, also attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounès Magramane, focused on strengthening economic cooperation to match the already robust political relationship. Minister Attaf emphasized the importance of concrete measures to expand trade volumes and encourage Japanese businesses to increase direct investments in Algeria.

‘We must translate our excellent political relations into tangible economic benefits for both our countries,’ Minister Attaf stated, highlighting the potential for growth across various sectors.

Vice-Minister Oishi echoed these sentiments, expressing Japan’s keen interest in exploring new investment opportunities in Algeria and fostering closer economic partnerships. Both sides agreed to continue discussions and identify specific projects that can contribute to achieving the shared goal of increased trade and investment.

The Algerian government has been actively seeking to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment, particularly in sectors beyond hydrocarbons. Japan, with its technological expertise and industrial capabilities, is seen as a key partner in this endeavor. This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening economic ties and unlocking the full potential of the Algeria-Japan partnership.
