Algiers – A high-level Japanese delegation’s official visit to Algeria has yielded promising agreements and new directions in technology and economic cooperation. Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounès Magramane, held a working session Thursday morning with Yohei Oishi, Japan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, marking a significant step in bolstering bilateral relations.
The meeting underscored the strong historical ties and growing momentum in Algerian-Japanese relations, highlighted by recent high-level visits from both sides and a convergence of views on various regional and international issues of mutual interest. Mr. Magramane congratulated Japan on its successful hosting of Expo 2025 in Osaka, where Algeria’s active participation was recognized with a silver medal for best pavilion design.
Both parties acknowledged the positive current climate, which is expected to stimulate a new dynamic in bilateral ties, particularly in political and economic spheres. They committed to ensuring regular and periodic bilateral consultations, building on commitments made during the successful first session of the Algerian-Japanese Joint Governmental Economic Committee held in Algiers in May.
To this end, both sides agreed to hold the sixth session of political consultations concurrently with the second meeting of the Algerian-Japanese Joint Governmental Economic Committee in Tokyo during the first half of 2026.
Following the working session, the Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister was received by Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, and subsequently met with Noureddine Ouadhi, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Small Enterprises. These meetings reflect the determination of Algeria and Japan to diversify their exchanges and elevate them to the desired level, particularly in the fields of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
This visit signals a strengthened commitment to cooperation between Algeria and Japan, promising future advancements in key sectors. The focus on technology and economic diversification points to a strategic partnership poised for growth.
