The United Arab Emirates has expressed its support for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to promote security and stability in Yemen. The UAE emphasized its commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to the stability and development of the war-torn nation, according to a statement released today.
The UAE lauded Saudi Arabia’s role in serving the interests of the Yemeni people and fulfilling their aspirations for stability and prosperity. This endorsement comes amid recent developments concerning military movements in the Hadramaut and Al-Mahra governorates.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Thursday that recent military actions in Hadramaut and Al-Mahra were conducted without the approval of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council or coordination with the Coalition to Support Legitimacy. Efforts are underway to restore the situation in both governorates to its previous state.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry indicated it is relying on the Southern Transitional Council’s (STC) initiative to end the escalation and ensure the swift withdrawal of its forces from Hadramaut and Al-Mahra, which they seized earlier this month. The Kingdom emphasized that the STC’s military movements were unilateral and resulted in an unjustified escalation that harmed the interests of the Yemeni people.
Reportedly, Saudi Arabia, in conjunction with the UAE, and with the cooperation of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, has been working to contain the situation. A joint military team from Saudi Arabia and the UAE has been dispatched to Aden to coordinate with the STC, ensuring the return of its forces to their previous positions outside the two governorates and the handover of military camps to Homeland Shield forces and local authorities under the supervision of coalition forces.
The Yemeni government has stated that the stability of Hadramaut and Al-Mahra is a priority, and any military movements outside constitutional and institutional frameworks are unacceptable. The STC announced on December 9th that its forces had completed their control over Al-Mahra Governorate and Wadi Hadramaut in eastern Yemen. The STC participates in the government, with its president, Aidarous al-Zoubaidi, and his deputies holding positions within the administration.
