Zelensky Announces Possible Meeting with Trump to Boost Peace Efforts

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Friday his intention to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump in the coming days. The move is reportedly aimed at accelerating efforts to reach a peaceful resolution to the conflict before the end of the year.

Zelensky stated in online posts that the announcement followed briefings on recent communications from the American side, led by Rustem Umerov, the chief Ukrainian negotiator in peace talks. He emphasized that “much can be achieved before the New Year.”

According to Zelensky, he spoke Thursday evening with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, for approximately an hour about pathways to peace. He noted that the discussions involved several new ideas and details regarding potential meetings and formats, along with a clear timeline for negotiations.

Trump is reportedly pushing for an agreement to end the war, with talks led by Witkoff and Kushner said to be gradually progressing in recent weeks. Diplomatic sources suggest the meeting could potentially take place on December 28th at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
