Washington D.C. – The United States military has conducted a series of strikes against ISIS targets in northwestern Nigeria, according to statements released by both the U.S. and Nigerian governments. Former President Donald Trump announced the strikes on his social media platform, describing them as “powerful and devastating.” He stated that the Department of Defense carried out precise strikes targeting ISIS positions, emphasizing the careful planning involved.
U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed the operation in a statement, noting that the strikes were conducted at the request of the Nigerian authorities. While AFRICOM did not release a specific casualty count, the statement indicated that a number of ISIS operatives were killed.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth praised the readiness of U.S. forces and expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support provided by the Nigerian government. He highlighted the importance of international collaboration in combating terrorism.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement acknowledging the U.S. military’s “precise strikes” against terrorist locations within the country. The ministry emphasized that the security and intelligence cooperation between Nigeria and the United States falls within the framework of joint efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism. It stated that this coordination has resulted in accurate aerial operations targeting terrorist hotspots, particularly in the northwestern regions of Nigeria.
