Gaza City – Reports indicate that the Israeli military conducted airstrikes and artillery shelling on various areas east of Gaza City Friday evening. These actions occurred within territories still under Israeli control, according to the existing ceasefire agreement.
These actions are viewed as a continuation of Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on October 10, 2025. Eyewitnesses reported two consecutive airstrikes targeting the Zeitoun neighborhood, located east of Gaza City. Additionally, Israeli artillery reportedly shelled areas near the Al-Sanafour intersection in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, also east of the city.
The reported violations follow the death of a Palestinian earlier in the day, who was allegedly shot by Israeli forces in the Jabalia refugee camp, located in the northern Gaza Strip. This area was supposed to be under Palestinian control, according to the agreement.
These incidents come on the heels of accusations from Egyptian officials that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is deliberately attempting to obstruct the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and inflame tensions in the region.
The second phase of the agreement encompasses several critical issues, including reconstruction efforts, the expansion of the Israeli withdrawal, the establishment of a technocratic committee to administer the Gaza Strip, the disarmament of Hamas, the formation of a peace council, and the deployment of international forces.
Critics argue that Israel has failed to fulfill its obligations outlined in the first phase of the agreement, notably the cessation of hostilities. Continued firing and shelling in various parts of the Gaza Strip have reportedly resulted in the deaths of 406 Palestinians and injuries to 1,118 others between October 11th and Wednesday.DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds.
The ceasefire agreement brought an end to a large-scale military operation launched by Israel on October 10, 2023, which lasted for two years. This operation resulted in approximately 71,000 Palestinian fatalities and over 171,000 injuries. Widespread destruction impacted an estimated 90% of the region’s infrastructure, with the United Nations estimating reconstruction costs at around $70 billion.
