President Tebboune Addresses African Pharmaceutical Production Conference

Algiers, November 27, 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune delivered a message today to participants at the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and other Health Technologies. The message was read on his behalf by Prime Minister Sifi Gherib.

In his address, President Tebboune highlighted that Algeria’s selection to host this significant conference stemmed from several key factors, primarily the achievements and reforms implemented within the pharmaceutical industry.

The President emphasized Algeria’s prominent role in African pharmaceutical manufacturing, stating that the nation possesses approximately one-third of the continent’s pharmaceutical facilities. He noted that out of 649 factories across Africa, around 230 are located in Algeria, with over 100 new projects currently underway.

President Tebboune further explained that hosting this conference in Algeria, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, aims to bolster the pharmaceutical industry throughout Africa. He underscored Algeria’s commitment to prioritizing the pharmaceutical sector as a strategic and nationally important element in achieving health security, evidenced by the establishment of a dedicated ministry.

“Algeria, in hosting this continental event, reaffirms its commitment to its vision of making Africa a continent integrated in its development,” the President stated.

Moreover, President Tebboune expressed his hope that the “Algiers Declaration,” set to be the culmination of the conference, will serve as a charter for African nations, enabling Africa to become a self-sufficient producer of its own medicines. This initiative underscores Algeria’s dedication to fostering pharmaceutical independence and strengthening healthcare systems across the continent.
