Doha, Qatar – The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia during a phone call with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday. The discussion centered on the latest developments in Somalia, with the Amir emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to the country’s security and stability.
President Mohamud expressed his gratitude to the Amir for Qatar’s consistent support and for its role in advocating for international rejection of Israel’s decision regarding ‘Somaliland’.
Qatar has previously voiced its strong opposition to the declaration of mutual recognition between Israeli authorities and the ‘Somaliland’ region. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an earlier statement, condemned the move as a dangerous precedent and a unilateral action that contravenes the principles of international law. It emphasized that such actions undermine the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Ministry’s statement reiterated Qatar’s rejection of any attempts to establish or impose parallel entities that could undermine Somalia’s unity. It stressed Qatar’s dedication to preserving Somalia’s security and stability, as well as safeguarding the interests of its people.
The Ministry further emphasized that Israeli authorities should instead recognize the State of Palestine, whose right to establish an independent state on its national territory has been affirmed by the international community. The statement also called for an end to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
