Carlson’s “Radical Islam” Remarks Ignite MAGA Divide

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson’s recent remarks concerning “radical Islam” have sparked a heated debate within the American right wing, exposing deep divisions within the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement. The controversy highlights a schism between a faction advocating for non-interventionism and a reevaluation of Washington’s support for Israel, and another that views such rhetoric as a direct threat to national security and conservative values.

Carlson, speaking at a memorial service for political activist Charlie Kirk in Arizona on September 21, 2025, argued that the real dangers facing the United States are internal. He identified suicide, addiction, and societal fragmentation as the primary threats, rather than “radical Islamic extremism.”

According to Newsweek, Carlson stated during an appearance on “The American Conservative” podcast that he is unaware of any American killed by radical Islamic extremism in the past 24 years. He further accused the Israeli government and its supporters in the United States of promoting the idea that “radical Islam” is America’s foremost threat.

“I know many people who have committed suicide, and others who have died from drug overdoses. I know people who can’t get jobs… these white boys are being destroyed by Adderall, video games, and pornography,” Carlson reportedly said.

These statements have triggered angry reactions across social media platforms from prominent right-wing figures. Laura Loomer, a far-right activist, accused Carlson of lying and covering up what she described as “Islamic terrorism.” Others have joined Loomer in condemning Carlson’s perspective. The controversy underscores the complex and evolving landscape of conservative thought in America, particularly regarding foreign policy and the perception of threats to national security.

The debate is likely to continue, further fracturing the already diverse coalition that makes up the MAGA movement. The long-term implications of this division remain to be seen.
