Algiers – Aghur Mhenni, son of Ferhat Mhenni, the president of the organization designated as a terrorist group known as the ‘MAK’, has publicly disavowed his father’s agenda. In a statement released today, Aghur Mhenni affirmed his unwavering commitment to the national unity of Algeria and expressed his deep desire to restore the honor of his family.
Aghur Mhenni emphasized his dedication to Algeria’s territorial integrity, distancing himself from the separatist movement led by his father. He stated that his personal convictions are in stark contrast to the goals and methods employed by the MAK. The organization, which advocates for the autonomy of the Kabylie region, has been outlawed by the Algerian government and branded a terrorist group due to its alleged involvement in acts of violence and incitement of unrest.
“I firmly believe in a united and prosperous Algeria,” Aghur Mhenni stated. “My father’s actions do not reflect my own values or aspirations for our nation.”
Furthermore, Aghur Mhenni highlighted his family’s historical contribution to Algeria’s struggle for independence during the War of Liberation. He recalled the sacrifices made by his relatives in the fight against French colonial rule, emphasizing that their legacy should not be tarnished by his father’s current activities. “Our family has a proud history of service to Algeria,” he asserted. “I am determined to uphold that legacy and to contribute to the country’s future in a positive and constructive manner.”
The younger Mhenni’s statement comes at a sensitive time, as the Algerian government continues its efforts to combat terrorism and maintain national stability. His public disavowal of his father’s actions is likely to be viewed as a significant development in the ongoing struggle against separatist movements in the country.
