Algiers, December 28, 2025 – The Algerian government is prioritizing the protection of health data as a key strategic objective. Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Ait Messoudane, announced the creation of digitization directorates within health institutions, emphasizing that digitizing the health sector is a top priority for both sectoral operations and national strategies.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of a national training week dedicated to cybersecurity and personal data protection within the health sector, held at the National Institute for Higher Paramedical Training in the capital.
Minister Ait Messoudane stated that “cybersecurity and health data protection are strategic priorities for the Algerian state, especially given the comprehensive digital transformation underway in the health sector.” He stressed that the increasing reliance on information systems and digital platforms is essential for improving the quality of health services and enhancing patient care.
The Minister acknowledged that this digital transformation, while beneficial, presents significant challenges, particularly in ensuring information security and protecting sensitive personal health data, which is closely linked to individual rights and freedoms.
He further explained that the Ministry of Health, in line with the national cybersecurity strategy and directives from the highest authorities, is integrating security and legal considerations into all digitization projects. This includes fostering a data protection culture within health institutions through training, awareness campaigns, and human capacity building.
The Minister also commended the contributions of institutional partners, including the Ministry of National Defense, the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data, and the Center for Scientific and Technological Research. He praised this collaboration as reflecting integrated visions and coordinated efforts to serve national digital security and protect information sovereignty. He wished the participants success in their training week.
