The Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boujemaa, presided over the graduation ceremony for officer and rehabilitation agent cohorts at the National School for Prison Administration Employees in Kolea on Monday. The ceremony marked the culmination of intensive training for hundreds of new professionals entering Algeria’s correctional system.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the graduating classes comprised 1672 trainees. This included 55 principal rehabilitation officers, 88 rehabilitation officers, and 1529 rehabilitation agents. These individuals completed a rigorous 12-month training program that alternated between theoretical studies and practical application exercises.
The Ministry emphasized that the training program was specifically tailored to meet the evolving demands of prison reform. This includes modernizing the administrative and financial management of penal institutions and promoting educational, health, and psychological activities for inmates. The overarching goal is to prepare inmates for successful social reintegration, aligning with international standards for the protection and respect of human rights.
DZWatch will continue to follow developments within Algeria’s justice system and provide updates on efforts to improve correctional facilities and rehabilitation programs. The government has repeatedly stated its commitment to reforming the penal system and ensuring that it adheres to the highest international standards. Rehabilitation remains a key focus for the Ministry of Justice.
