Civil Defense Urges Vigilance for New Year 2026

The General Directorate of Civil Defense is calling on all citizens to exercise responsibility and heightened caution as the New Year 2026 approaches. This appeal aims to prevent accidents that could lead to significant human and material losses.

The Directorate emphasizes that this period typically sees an increase in traffic accidents due to increased travel. Furthermore, domestic accidents, particularly those related to suffocation or carbon monoxide poisoning, are also a major concern. The potential hazards arising from weather fluctuations that can impact public safety are also being highlighted.

Traffic Safety Recommendations

The Civil Defense strongly advises adherence to a set of preventative measures during travel. These include ensuring the vehicle’s technical safety and the availability of necessary emergency equipment. Monitoring weather forecasts and road conditions to avoid hazards and congestion is also crucial. Strict compliance with traffic laws and avoiding excessive speed and dangerous maneuvers are paramount, as is avoiding driving while tired or sleepy, especially during late night hours.

Home Safety Precautions

Citizens are urged to prioritize home safety by ensuring adequate ventilation in enclosed spaces to prevent suffocation or carbon monoxide poisoning. Regular inspection of heating and water heating appliances, as well as electrical devices, before going to sleep is essential. Disconnecting electrical appliances when leaving the house is also recommended to prevent fires.

Emergency Preparedness

The General Directorate of Civil Defense assures the public that its operational units are on standby around the clock to ensure rapid and effective intervention when needed. In case of any emergency, citizens are urged to immediately contact the emergency number 14 or the toll-free number 1021, providing precise details about the nature and location of the danger to ensure a swift response. The Civil Defense wishes everyone a safe and happy New Year.
