Proactive Plan Launched to Secure Ramadan Food Basket, Stabilize Prices

Algiers – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Market Regulation has announced a comprehensive plan aimed at ensuring the availability of essential goods and price stability during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. This initiative, described as ‘proactive,’ seeks to address potential market fluctuations and guarantee a consistent supply of staple foods for Algerian citizens.

Minister of Domestic Trade and Market Regulation, Amal Abdellatif, chaired a coordination meeting on Monday with regional trade directors from the Algiers and Blida regions. The meeting, which included provincial and delegated trade directors from Algiers, Tipaza, Boumerdes, Blida, Medea, Djelfa, Ain Defla, Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Ain Oussera, and Messaad, focused on assessing the current state of the national market and the availability of widely consumed goods.

Discussions centered on preparations for Ramadan, with the primary objective of ensuring a steady supply of goods and maintaining stable prices throughout the month. The Minister emphasized the importance of establishing local markets across various provinces. These markets are seen as a crucial mechanism for bringing goods closer to consumers and ensuring the availability of essential products at reasonable prices, particularly during Ramadan.

Minister Abdellatif underscored the need for enhanced on-the-ground coordination between relevant ministerial sectors and the continuation of proactive measures. Furthermore, she called for intensified monitoring and control operations to protect the purchasing power of citizens. Vigilance and swift intervention are crucial to address any potential imbalances and ensure the smooth functioning of markets, the Minister stated.

The ministry’s proactive approach reflects a commitment to safeguarding consumers and ensuring a stable and accessible market during the important Ramadan period.
