West Bank Engulfed by Floods After Torrential Rainfall
The West Bank experienced severe weather conditions on Monday as heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms led to widespread flooding and significant material damage across the region.
The Palestinian Civil Defense reported responding to numerous emergency calls since early morning, including the evacuation of homes south of Hebron, particularly in the Al-Hadidiya area, due to severe flooding. Teams worked to drain water from residences, kindergartens, and nurseries as water levels rose dangerously.
Reports also indicate road collapses, blocked stormwater drainage systems, fallen trees and utility poles, and vehicles submerged in various locations throughout the West Bank.
Videos circulating on social media depict the extent of the flooding, showing streets and residential areas inundated with water. One video purportedly shows a vehicle and a young man being swept away by floodwaters near the village of Al-Ramadin, south of Hebron. The fate of the individual remains unconfirmed.
The Meteorological Department stated that the Palestinian territories were affected by a low-pressure system accompanied by strong winds and heavy rainfall across most areas, sometimes with thunderstorms. While rainfall is expected to decrease later tonight, unstable weather conditions are forecast to return with a new low-pressure system expected to arrive next Thursday, potentially bringing more heavy rain and thunderstorms to some areas.
These weather events occur amidst repeated warnings about the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas. Citizens are urged to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides. DZWatch will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
