Saudi Arabia Demands UAE Withdrawal from Yemen, Cites Security Threat

RIYADH – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reiterated its demand for the United Arab Emirates to withdraw its forces from Yemen within 24 hours, issuing a strong statement vowing to protect its own security. The Saudi Council of Ministers issued the statement Tuesday evening, addressing ongoing developments in Yemen.

According to the statement, carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the recent escalation in Yemen contradicts the very foundations upon which the coalition to support legitimacy was built. “We hope that the UAE will respond to Yemen’s request to cease all support for any other party within Yemen,” the Council stated, specifically referencing the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

“We hope that the UAE will respond to Yemen’s request for the withdrawal of Emirati forces within 24 hours,” the statement continued, emphasizing the Kingdom’s commitment to Yemen’s security, stability, and sovereignty, as well as its support for the Presidential Leadership Council. The Council reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia will not hesitate to take necessary measures to confront any threat to its security.

Earlier on Tuesday, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council head Rashad al-Alimi reportedly called for the complete withdrawal of all UAE forces from Yemeni territory within 24 hours.

The UAE Ministry of Defense later announced the completion of the withdrawal of its remaining counter-terrorism teams from Yemen, asserting that the decision was made voluntarily and in full coordination with partners. The Ministry clarified that the decision stems from a comprehensive assessment of current requirements and aligns with the UAE’s commitment and role in supporting regional security and stability.

Previously, the coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen conducted airstrikes on weapons and combat vehicles arriving aboard two ships at the port of Mukalla in Hadramaut Governorate. Last Saturday, the coalition announced its decision to take military action against violations by the STC in Hadramaut Governorate, responding to a request from Yemeni Presidential Council head al-Alimi.

The STC, which advocates for the separation of southern Yemen from the north, initiated surprise military movements earlier this month.
