Florida, USA – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump have reportedly reached an agreement on key details for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The understanding was reached during their recent meeting in Florida, according to Israeli Channel 12.
The report indicates that the transition to the next phase will occur within the ‘yellow line,’ an area under the control of the Israeli military. Crucially, both leaders allegedly agreed that reconstruction efforts in Rafah, also under Israeli military control, will commence prior to the complete disarmament of Hamas.
Earlier reports from Axios, citing a US official and a source familiar with the matter, stated that Netanyahu had already agreed to proceed with the second phase, despite existing disagreements with President Trump’s team regarding its implementation. The Economist newspaper also quoted US officials as saying they plan to begin the reconstruction of Gaza within weeks, adding that the disarmament of Hamas would be a significantly longer process.
President Trump has previously expressed his desire to quickly move to the second phase of the agreement. Following his meeting with Netanyahu in Florida, he stated that Hamas would be given a brief period to relinquish its weapons, warning of severe consequences should they fail to do so.
Israeli media sources have indicated that President Trump informed Netanyahu of his intention to unveil his plan for the ‘day after’ in Gaza on January 15th. This plan reportedly includes the establishment of an international oversight body, potentially headed by President Trump himself.
Israel Hayom newspaper reported that Trump stated during the meeting that a governing civilian entity for Gaza would be formed in the coming weeks, preparing to take control from Hamas.
Netanyahu arrived in Florida on Sunday for a five-day visit. He was received by President Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort on Monday, shortly after Trump’s meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and advisors Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
President Trump initially announced a 20-point plan for peace and a ceasefire in Gaza on September 29th, including the release of Israeli prisoners, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas.
