Algeria’s Handball Squad: Fixtures Announced for Africa Cup

DZWatch Exclusive: The Confederation of African Handball has released the official match schedule for the Algerian national handball team at the upcoming 27th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament is slated to take place in Rwanda from January 21st to 31st, 2026.

Algeria has been drawn into Group A, setting the stage for a series of challenging encounters. The national team, known as ‘Les Verts’, will begin their campaign against Nigeria on January 21st. They will then face the host nation, Rwanda, on January 22nd. The group stage will conclude with a match against Zambia on January 24th.

Group B comprises Egypt, Angola, Gabon, and Uganda, while Group C features Tunisia, Guinea, Cameroon, and Kenya. Cape Verde, Morocco, Congo, and Benin make up Group D.

Prior to the Africa Cup, the Algerian squad has been actively engaged in intensive preparation. They recently played a friendly match against the Czech Republic, which ended in a draw (31-31). Further friendly matches are scheduled against Kuwait (January 4th), Kosovo (January 10th), and Georgia (January 12th).

Les Verts will also participate in a fifth friendly against a top-tier Slovenian team during the second phase of their training camp, held in Slovenia from January 2nd to 14th.

The final roster of players selected for the Africa Cup of Nations is expected to be announced after the conclusion of the final training camp on January 16th. The team is scheduled to depart for Rwanda on January 17th.

  • Wednesday, January 21 (12:00): Algeria vs. Nigeria
  • Thursday, January 22 (18:00): Algeria vs. Rwanda
  • Saturday, January 24 (12:00): Zambia vs. Algeria
