Throughout 2025, Algerian diplomacy solidified its influential presence on both the regional and international stages. Guided by the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations, Algeria remained steadfast in its commitment to international law and the legitimate rights of oppressed peoples, most notably the Palestinian and Sahrawi populations.
Under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria prioritized its relationships with neighboring countries, fostering diplomacy rooted in mutual respect and the firm belief that its own security is intrinsically linked to the stability of its regional environment. This approach involved strengthening security and economic cooperation, as well as intensifying political consultations to address shared challenges. Algeria pursued these goals within a framework of trust and balanced partnership, always upholding the principle of non-interference.
Furthermore, Algeria actively sought to mediate regional conflicts, demonstrating its commitment to peaceful resolutions. The nation’s diplomatic efforts, having regained prominence, reflected its adherence to international legitimacy during its 2024-2025 term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Algeria maintained a balanced and effective stance, grounded in respect for the UN Charter.
This commitment extended to unwavering support for Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian issue. Algerian diplomacy emerged as a consistent and clear voice advocating for Palestinian rights within regional and international forums. Algeria reiterated its firm belief that Palestine is not merely a matter of temporary solidarity, but a decolonization issue requiring decisive international action to enable the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
During its Security Council tenure, Algeria served as a driving force behind principled positions calling for an end to the Zionist aggression in the Gaza Strip. It also intensified diplomatic coordination to unify positions, recognizing support for Palestine as a cornerstone of its foreign policy and a part of its historical commitment to combating injustice wherever it exists.
In September, President Tebboune emphasized that Algeria’s long-standing struggle for the Palestinian cause has been based on the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital. Algeria continues to champion Arab causes on the world stage.
