Prayers Held Globally for Hamas Leaders, Abu Ubaida

Thousands participated in absentia prayers (Salat al-Ghaib) on Friday across Gaza and several Arab and Muslim nations, honoring leaders of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. These individuals are believed to have perished during the recent conflict in Gaza.

The mass prayers followed a call from Hamas, urging Muslims to remember the fallen leaders in mosques and Islamic centers worldwide. Among those commemorated were prominent figures such as Mohammed Al-Sinwar, Chief of Staff; Mohammed Shabana, Rafah Brigade Commander; Hakam Al-Issa, Commander of Weapons and Combat Services; Raed Saad, Head of Military Manufacturing; and Huthaifa Al-Kahlout, known as Abu Ubaida, the former spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades.

In war-torn Gaza, worshippers gathered in various locations, including the Al-Hidaya Mosque in Gaza City and the Al-Omari Grand Mosque. Prayers were also held in front of mosques that had been damaged or destroyed during the conflict. These gatherings served as a poignant reminder of the devastation endured by the region.

Outside of Palestine, reports indicate significant participation in the absentia prayers. In Morocco, thousands reportedly prayed near mosques in cities like Oujda, Taza, and Marrakech, responding to a call from the Moroccan Authority for Supporting the Nation’s Causes.

Similar observances were reported in Turkey, specifically in Batman province, as well as in Iraqi Kurdistan, the Lebanese city of Sidon, Douma in Syria, and several cities in Yemen. These prayers reflect a widespread sentiment and recognition of the roles these figures played within Hamas.
