Fuel Price Adjustment in Algeria: Ministry Statement

Algiers, January 2, 2026 – The Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines has issued an official statement regarding the recent adjustment to fuel prices, effective January 1st. The ministry emphasized that the revision is necessary to ensure the continuous supply of fuel to the national market and to cover the increasing costs of production and distribution.

According to the statement, the price of gasoline has been adjusted from 45.62 DZD per liter to 47 DZD per liter, an increase of 1.38 DZD. Diesel prices have risen from 29.01 DZD per liter to 31 DZD per liter, marking a 1.99 DZD increase. The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas/Fuel (GPL/C) has been adjusted from 9 DZD per liter to 12 DZD per liter, an increase of 3 DZD.

The Ministry maintains that the state will continue to bear a significant portion of the difference between the actual cost of fuel and the price at the pump. This measure aims to mitigate the impact on consumers and support economic activities.

Despite these adjustments, the ministry highlights that “Sirghaz” (LPG/C) remains the most economical fuel option in Algeria, with a price four times lower than gasoline. This underscores the government’s commitment to promoting this environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative. The new fuel prices, the statement clarifies, do not reflect the true cost of production, refining, transportation, and distribution. The public treasury continues to absorb a large portion of these costs to safeguard purchasing power.

The primary objective of this price revision is to enable refining and distribution companies to maintain operational readiness and ensure the uninterrupted availability of fuel across the country, preventing future supply disruptions. Revenue generated from this adjustment will be directly invested in modernizing service stations, expanding the retail network to improve accessibility for citizens, and developing storage and distribution infrastructure.

The Ministry’s statement concludes by affirming that this approach balances the need to maintain the continuity and quality of public service in the energy sector with the protection of consumers from price fluctuations, ensuring that fuel prices in Algeria remain relatively stable.
