Caracas, Venezuela – The United States has claimed responsibility for military action within Venezuela, including the alleged capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. According to statements attributed to US President Donald Trump, the operation was conducted “successfully,” with Maduro and his wife purportedly transported out of the country.
As of this report, there has been no immediate official confirmation or denial from the Venezuelan government regarding these claims.
Reports indicate a series of explosions and military activity occurred in Caracas. Witnesses described hearing sounds of warplanes and explosions, accompanied by rising plumes of smoke in various parts of the capital. Similar reports have emerged from the port of La Guaira, a major maritime hub, as well as Higuerote, with alleged attacks targeting Higuerote airport, La Carlota airbase, and the Fort Tiuna military complex.
In response to the unfolding situation, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López has characterized the events as an act of “aggression” by the United States, describing it as the most significant attack the country has faced. He called for national unity and resistance, stating, “We will not negotiate, and we will not give up the freedom and independence of Venezuela.” He further announced a general mobilization of the armed forces, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and avoiding chaos.
Earlier, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister announced President Maduro’s decree declaring a state of emergency and ordering the immediate deployment of popular defense forces nationwide. The Foreign Minister condemned the alleged attacks as a violation of the UN charter, threatening international peace and stability, and warned that any attempt to change the government would fail.
