Iran is witnessing its sixth day of protests sparked by rising living costs. The situation is evolving politically and on the ground, marked by Iranian officials’ strong reactions to statements made by US President Donald Trump regarding the unrest. There’s also been a shift in some protesters’ slogans, moving from economic grievances to broader political demands, alongside a rising death toll among demonstrators.
Official Condemnation of Trump’s Statements
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Trump’s threat of intervention was an irresponsible and dangerous message. He added that the US President “knows better than anyone” that attacks on public property cannot be tolerated. Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian armed forces are fully prepared and know precisely how and where to respond if Iran’s sovereignty is violated.
Ali Larijani, Chairman of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated on Friday that Trump should understand that US interference in this internal matter “means the demise of its interests in the region.” In a statement on X, he added that the positions of Israeli officials and Trump’s statements clarified the “true background” of the ongoing protests in Iran. Larijani cautioned the American people about the fate of their soldiers, stating that they should know that Trump initiated this adventure.
Ali Shamkhani, advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, said on Friday that any hand that interferes or approaches Iran’s security under flimsy pretexts will be cut off before it reaches. He stressed that Iran’s national security is a “red line.” In a post on X, Shamkhani explained that the Iranian people are well aware of the American rescue experience, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Gaza.
Trump’s Stance on the Protests
On Friday, Trump warned that Washington would intervene if Tehran used force against protesters in Iran, following demonstrations triggered by the declining value of the local currency and deteriorating economic conditions. The US President declared his support for the demonstrators, stating that the United States would provide them with protection from any acts of violence. Trump has pledged to support the Iranian people.
