Algeria Vaccinates Millions of Children Against Polio

Algiers, January 3, 2026 – Nearly four million children across Algeria have been vaccinated against polio during the second phase of the national vaccination campaign, the Ministry of Health announced today.

The campaign, which ran from December 21st to December 30th, 2025, successfully reached 3,838,881 children in all provinces of the country, according to a ministry statement. This represents a 96% coverage rate of the targeted population.

The vaccination drive focused on children between the ages of two months and five years. The Ministry of Health emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of the national health prevention strategy and its alignment with global health recommendations.

“The high vaccination rate achieved during this phase is a testament to the dedication of our healthcare workers and the cooperation of parents across the country,” a Ministry spokesperson stated.

The Ministry also urged parents to ensure their children are vaccinated during the third phase of the campaign, scheduled to take place from January 25th to January 31st, 2026. This final phase is crucial to ensuring the continued protection of children’s health and maintaining Algeria’s polio-free status.

The national vaccination campaign is a key component of Algeria’s public health strategy, aimed at preventing the resurgence of preventable diseases and ensuring the well-being of its youngest citizens.
