Gulf States Urge Calm in Yemen, Welcome Southern Dialogue

Several Gulf nations have called for de-escalation in Yemen amidst rising political and military tensions in the eastern Hadramout province. The calls coincide with widespread support for a proposed conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, aimed at initiating dialogue on the Southern issue.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry, in a statement released Saturday, urged all Southern Yemeni factions to participate in a conference hosted within the Kingdom. The objective is to formulate a comprehensive vision for equitable solutions to the Southern issue. This announcement followed a request from Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council head Rashad al-Alimi to Saudi Arabia to host such a gathering.

Qatar has also welcomed the efforts of the legitimate Yemeni government to support national dialogue and address the Southern issue. The Qatari Foreign Ministry affirmed its support for all initiatives aimed at achieving just and comprehensive solutions that contribute to enhanced security and stability in Yemen.

The Ministry further stated that Qatar appreciates President al-Alimi’s request to convene a conference in Riyadh. This conference is intended to bring Yemeni parties together for dialogue, seeking appropriate solutions to the Southern issue. This reflects the Yemeni leadership’s commitment to dialogue as a fundamental approach to resolving various national issues.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry expressed its appreciation to Saudi Arabia for hosting the conference, praising Riyadh’s role in supporting regional and international efforts to achieve security and stability in Yemen. The Ministry emphasized the importance of constructive participation from all Southern components, prioritizing the interests of the Yemeni people. It also stressed adherence to the outcomes of the national dialogue as a comprehensive framework for reaching a unified political solution that meets the aspirations of all Yemenis, while preserving Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the Qatari Foreign Ministry cautioned that unilateral declarations and actions taken without consultation and consensus among Yemeni parties, and without engaging in serious and responsible dialogue, could lead to chaos, harming the interests of the Yemeni people.
