Algeria, along with other African nations, is making a concerted effort to obtain reparations for the atrocities committed during the colonial era. Rabieka pointed out that Algeria, like its African brethren, suffered significantly under colonial rule, experiencing domination, criminal acts, and bloodshed. He emphasized that these colonial crimes, which left deep and still festering wounds, will not be forgotten or become obsolete with time. They remain a crucial part of the memory files reflecting Algeria’s stance towards the oppressed peoples in Africa and the world.
He further noted that the colonial legacy in Algeria was heavy, and upon gaining independence, the country embarked on a national policy to address the severe impacts of the colonial era. This policy included significant national resources devoted to providing social, health, and psychological care for the victims of the Liberation War and compensating them for the damages they suffered.
Today, under the leadership of President Tebboune, Algeria continues to address these historical issues through insightful mechanisms that consider all aspects. Rabieka highlighted that Algeria’s approach to these matters is also part of scientific and practical strategies, engaging all actors in the historical and legal fields.
