National Gendarmerie Issues Urgent Appeal in Cyber Fraud Case

Algiers – The National Gendarmerie has launched an urgent appeal to the public for assistance in identifying three individuals suspected of involvement in online fraud and the illegal processing of personal data. The appeal follows an in-depth investigation into alleged criminal activities including the creation and operation of fake online platforms.

According to an official statement, this measure is being implemented under Article 26 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, with authorization from the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Cheraga Court. The suspects are accused of exploiting computer systems unlawfully, collecting and processing personal data without consent, and using fraudulent means – including information related to foreign electronic payment cards – to illicitly obtain funds.

DZWatch understands that these actions constitute offenses punishable by law, and could lead to criminal records for those involved if the allegations are proven. The Gendarmerie is urging anyone who may have been a victim of prior dealings with the suspects, or who possesses information that could aid the investigation, to come forward.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Cheraga Court or the nearest National Gendarmerie service to file a complaint or provide testimony related to the ongoing case. Authorities emphasized that public cooperation remains essential in combating cybercrime and protecting the community from the dangers of online fraud. The investigation is ongoing.
