Tamanrasset, Algeria – In the heart of the Hoggar mountains, Tamanrasset is experiencing a postal service transformation. From its humble beginnings in a simple mud-brick building, the region’s postal network has evolved into a modern system serving even the most remote areas.
Before Algeria’s independence, the first post office in southern Algeria was established in Tamanrasset. This modest structure served as a vital link connecting the remote south with the rest of the nation.
The historic building was more than just an administrative space. It witnessed a pivotal moment, laying the foundation for the spread of postal services in a region with unique geographical and climatic challenges. It played a crucial role in connecting the people of Hoggar and integrating them into the national community.
Today, decades of development have resulted in a comprehensive network of 36 post offices and 28 ATMs throughout the province. This expansion demonstrates the commitment of Algeria Post to modernize its services and bring them closer to citizens, regardless of their location.
This evolution represents Tamanrasset’s transition from the symbolic first mud-brick post office to a modern postal system that embraces digital transformation and meets the daily needs of the population. At the same time, it preserves the historical legacy of the postal service’s origins in the depths of the Algerian Sahara.
Tamanrasset continues to solidify its position on the national postal map, blending the memory of the past with the demands of the present, serving the citizen, and reinforcing the principle of proximity and quality performance. The modernization aims to bridge the gap between the region and the rest of the country.
