Algeria Sees Promising First Term, Trains 82,000 Integrated Teachers

DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria’s Minister of National Education has announced encouraging results for the first academic term. Speaking on national radio, the Minister highlighted the discipline observed in the implementation of the term’s program and schedule. He described the results as ‘respectable and promising,’ reflecting the dedication and competence of educational staff in managing the learning process.

The Minister emphasized that these outcomes demonstrate the resilience of the educational system and its ability to maintain quality education despite past challenges. This positive assessment comes as the Ministry undertakes significant efforts to bolster the teaching workforce.

A key initiative is the training of newly ‘integrated’ teachers. This program, launched in response to presidential directives, aims to strengthen human resources and improve working conditions for educators. The Minister stated that this training follows the enactment of fundamental laws designed to benefit personnel and ensure effective supervision and professional development for teachers.

He clarified that the integration process adheres to strict criteria, acknowledging the unique circumstances and practical experience gained by teachers prior to their integration into the formal system. This careful approach is intended to maximize the impact of the integration program.

The integration initiative encompasses over 82,000 teachers who have served in education for periods ranging from eighteen months to over two years. These educators are undergoing supplementary training to enhance their professional skills. A previous integration effort in 2022 brought in 62,000 teachers following the COVID-19 pandemic, helping to stabilize the educational workforce and address staffing shortages.

To further enhance teacher stability, the Ministry has initiated recruitment competitions. The Minister noted that these competitions are a crucial tool for the government to ensure job security for teachers, which is seen as vital for improving educational performance. The emphasis on qualifications allows for the selection of specialized individuals, while prior practical experience is also taken into account during the evaluation process. Every month of relevant experience contributes to the applicant’s overall score.
