Parliament to Address Drug Prevention and Addiction Treatment

Algiers, DZWatch – The People’s National Assembly will hold a parliamentary day dedicated to drug prevention and addiction treatment tomorrow, Tuesday, under the supervision of Speaker Ibrahim Boughali. The initiative, spearheaded by the Committee on Youth, Sports, and Community Action, aims to foster a robust institutional dialogue on critical societal issues, particularly the pervasive threat of drug abuse.

The parliamentary day, themed “Preventing the Danger of Drugs on Society and Treating Addiction,” underscores the urgency of addressing drug addiction as a significant threat to national security, the stability of the youth population, and overall public health. The event will feature opening addresses by Committee Chairman Marazi Bouziane and Speaker Boughali, both expected to highlight the severity of addiction and emphasize the need for collaborative legislative, executive, and community efforts to combat it.

The program includes a series of specialized presentations, focusing on therapeutic approaches and successful field experiences in addiction treatment. Experts will also present on national public policies and legislation related to combating addiction, as well as the National Security Strategy in this domain. Further discussions will examine the reality of addiction among young people and the roles of various actors in prevention, with particular attention to the role of mosques in raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and addiction.

The parliamentary day will conclude with an open forum for attendees to exchange views and propose solutions. The proceedings will culminate in the formulation of recommendations aimed at strengthening prevention mechanisms, improving care, and facilitating social reintegration for individuals affected by addiction.
