Algeria Leads Globally with Cheapest Fuel Prices

Despite recent adjustments implemented at the start of 2026, Algeria continues to hold its position as a global leader in providing some of the world’s most affordable fuel prices. This is largely attributed to the nation’s robust subsidy program, which allocates significant financial resources annually to maintain consumer purchasing power and bolster economic activity.

According to recent data, the price of gasoline in Algeria is approximately 47 Algerian dinars per liter (around $0.36 USD). Diesel fuel is marketed at 31 dinars per liter ($0.25 USD). Notably, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) remains the cheapest globally, priced at just 12 dinars per liter ($0.09 USD).

International comparisons reveal that gasoline prices in Algeria are nearly half of those in some major oil-producing nations. For instance, in Saudi Arabia, a country producing approximately 10 million barrels of oil daily, gasoline sells for $0.621 USD per liter (approximately 79.8 dinars). In Russia, with a production of around 9 million barrels per day, the price is $0.834 USD per liter (about 107 dinars). Even in the United States, the world’s largest oil producer at approximately 14 million barrels daily, gasoline costs $0.835 USD per liter (107.3 dinars).

Diesel prices in several oil-producing countries are nearly four times higher than in Algeria. In the United States, diesel is priced at $0.925 USD per liter (118.87 dinars), while in Russia, it costs $0.951 USD (122.21 dinars).

Algerian fuel prices also remain significantly lower than those in other Arab oil-producing countries, such as Saudi Arabia ($0.443 USD per liter) and Kuwait ($0.374 USD per liter). Algeria stands out as having the lowest LPG prices globally, more than four times cheaper than in Saudi Arabia and Russia, demonstrating the extent of support allocated to this widely consumed fuel.

Earlier in 2026, fuel prices in Algeria experienced adjustments, with gasoline increasing from 45.62 dinars to 47 dinars per liter, diesel rising from 29.01 dinars to 31 dinars per liter, and LPG increasing from 9 dinars to 12 dinars per liter. These adjustments, according to the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, are part of implementing existing legislative and regulatory texts to ensure the continuous supply of the national market and cover…
