Algiers, Algeria – The Algerian Ministry of National Education is set to launch specialized high schools focusing on exact sciences, signaling a new era in the country’s educational approach. Minister Mohamed Sghir Saadaoui announced the initiative, highlighting its alignment with presidential directives and its potential to function as a ‘mini-university’ environment. This will allow students to delve deeply into mathematics, physics, and computer science.
In a recent radio interview, Minister Saadaoui emphasized the Ministry’s philosophy of guiding students based on their interests, skills, and knowledge. He envisioned students as projects, nurtured to develop their abilities in scientific and applied subjects. The goal is to seamlessly integrate them into higher education institutions and universities through coordinated efforts between the Ministries of Education and Higher Education.
Deepening Knowledge, Fostering Early Specialization
The Minister elaborated that these specialized schools aim to cultivate students with precise and profound knowledge in scientific disciplines. This will help them become specialists capable of contributing to a robust national education system. The curriculum will balance rigorous theoretical knowledge with a focus on national identity, while also prioritizing the training of qualified and patriotic educators to ensure quality and sustainability in the educational project.
Urgent Plan to Improve Educational Infrastructure
Minister Saadaoui stressed that quality education depends not only on curricula and training but also on robust infrastructure. He noted the government’s significant investment in developing school facilities, in collaboration with the Ministries of Housing and Interior, to ensure project implementation. While acknowledging overcrowding and disruptions in some institutions requiring temporary solutions, the Ministry is committed to finding permanent solutions to guarantee equal opportunities for all students.

The Minister stated that Algeria has approximately 30,000 educational institutions, including primary, middle, and high schools, in addition to private schools contributing to high-quality institution building.
