Digitization to Sharpen Focus on Occupational Hazards

Algiers – The Algerian government is prioritizing the digitization of occupational hazard prevention, signaling a move towards a smarter and more proactive approach to workplace safety. Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Abdelhak Sayhi, emphasized the necessity of adopting an intelligent system for preventing occupational risks, leveraging digital solutions and real-time risk assessment systems.

During an evaluation meeting dedicated to monitoring the activities of the Occupational Hazard Prevention Authority in the construction, public works, and irrigation sectors, Sayhi highlighted the importance of assessing management styles, measuring performance indicators, and following up on recommendations to improve public service, particularly in occupational health and safety and proactive risk prevention.

The Minister advocated for a unified national approach to occupational risk prevention, based on the intelligent targeting of workshops and institutions by relying on databases and analyzing accident rates. This involves transitioning to a smart prevention system that utilizes digital solutions and real-time risk assessment. “Digitization and smart prevention are fundamental pillars in building an effective national system for occupational safety and health,” Sayhi stated.

Furthermore, Sayhi directed officials to intensify field visits to construction, public works, and irrigation sites, focusing interventions on high-risk and labor-intensive establishments, adopting a proactive preventive approach. He stressed the importance of ensuring continuous monitoring of the implementation of prevention plans in occupational health and safety, referring violations to the competent authorities, and supporting institutions in preparing and implementing collective and individual preventive measures specific to construction, public works, and irrigation activities.

The Minister also underscored the significance of standardizing mechanisms for collecting and analyzing data on workplace accidents and occupational hazards, utilizing them to prepare proactive analytical studies that support decision-making and improve preventive policies. The development of digital training programs for workers and institutions is also a key component of this initiative.
